Cloth Nursing Pads - Preparation
I prepped my re-usable cloth nursing pads (so I could pack them in my hospital bag). As you may have seen in THIS previous post I have 3 sets (one cotton and two bamboo) to work with for now (I figured I'd try them out and see how I feel about them and then I'll make a bunch later).
To prep them I found out that YOU SHOULD NEVER BOIL PUL. It can melt and will just be destroyed (it won't be able to do its job of not letting moisture through anymore). So instead you want to wash items with PUL 3-5 times (so they will have the most absorbency) and also dry them on high for 30 minutes at the most (to seal the PUL fibers).
Well, my prep ended up being like this:
I threw them in the wash with any load I did until they were washed 4 times...at which point my husband threw the load in the dryer for me, so the nursing pads were accidentally dried with the load, lol. I imagine he dried them on the normal setting of medium heat for about 40 minutes, so we'll see how well they work when I need them. I might consider putting them in the dryer again on high this time for another 15 minutes or something if they seem to leak through when I use them.
I guess I could test them out by pouring some water on them and seeing how well it is contained...maybe I'll have to try that.
