Cloth Diaper Slang/Abbreviation Dictionary

0 comments
As I've been researching cloth diapering I've been coming across all these weird abbreviations like OS, EUC, PPD, etc. Some (like CD) I was able to figure out on my own, but others took some googling... So to help you out (as I obviously use these on my blog) here are the ones I've been coming across as a newbie (updated as found) and what they mean :)

NB=New Born
OS=One Size (fits all)
PUL or P.U.L.=special fabric that is very water resistant (used on the outside of most diapers and covers)
Blended Inserts=consist of both bamboo (outside layers) and microfiber (inside layers)
BST=Buy/Sell/Trade
Gussets=the elastic edge around the leg hole (so a double gusset has two elastic edges)
Aplix=Velcro
EUC=Excellent Used Condition
PPD=postage included (I think...still verifying this one)

For a more comprehensive in ALPHABETICAL ORDER list visit THIS dictionary. Super helpful!

Diaper BRANDS I've come across:
AlvaBaby (China cheapy)
SunBaby (China cheapy)
Kawaii
Happy Flute (only available through co-ops)

Diapers I want to buy "China Cheapies"

Newborn:
AlvaBaby: A bunch of them (10?) in various colors/patterns with VELCRO (because it's more adjustable)
http://alvababy.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=67_76
=$4.95 each (plus tax)

I might also try: Maybe a couple with SNAPS (just to try them out)
=4.50 each

One Size:
AlvaBaby: 14 (yes, 14) AI2 (basically a pocket diaper) Color Snap (double-row-hip-snaps AND great for telling others what size snap to use) Re-usable Cloth Diaper With Double Gussets (double elastic leg hole edges) +14 4-layer Bamboo Inserts (I believe they call their "blended" inserts "4-layer")
http://alvababy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37&products_id=1523
= about $7.08 each (+tax, but free shipping!)

SunBaby: 12 size 2 Pockets (single gusset) with double-row-hip-snaps and 24 blended inserts
http://sunbabydiapers.com/product/12-diaper-covers-with-24-blended-inserts-size-2/
= about $7.50 each (with two inserts each...not sure about tax/shipping)

I might try: one Alva Charcoal/Bamboo diaper and insert
http://alvababy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1564&cPath=82_114
=$7.19 each

Considering: some Alva Minky (super soft) diapers (comes with microfiber insert, boo)
http://alvababy.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=75
=$5.59 each

...Trying to decide on some used diapers available in one of my BST groups. Alva OS Pockets with double-row-hip-snaps in girly patterns (I'd just bleach them...)
=$4-6 each ppd

Inserts:
AlvaBaby Bamboo Charcoal: Not sure if I want 4-layer or 5-layer and how many...
http://alvababy.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_108
=$2.50-3.20 each

AlvaBaby NB: 10-20 blended
http://alvababy.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_85
=$2-2.50 each

The Great Cloth Diaper Change 2014

1 comments

Recently I've been doing a ton of research on cloth diapering. Luckily, besides gaining an education at "YouTube University" (as my Mother-in-law calls it) and checking out lots of websites and blogs, I have a few family members who CD (cloth diaper) their babies. But there's nothing quite comparable to gaining an education through experience.

Since my first child is potty trained I can't try out CDs at home yet. Also, until today I didn't have any of my own CDs to even touch...so I fixed that! I found an opportunity where I could not only get CDs at a good price, but an event where CDing is celebrated and even performed. I went to my local Great Cloth Diaper Change and had a good time checking out product options and seeing CDing in action (everyone gets together and changes their baby's cloth diaper at the same time in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record). Now I can start my education of experience! :)

Here is what I scored:
Total spent of $106.58 (after tax) + lots of freebies! :)
(Sorry, don't mind my work space, lol!)

Individual pics:
Kawaii NB Pocket, velcro, "Zebra" (front): My first cloth diaper ever!
Kawaii NB Pocket, velcro, "Zebra" (inside): All bamboo lining and came with two bamboo inserts :)

WINNER!!! I won this in the event drawing! Valued at $15 :D
Sankofa OS (one size) Pocket, double-row-hip-snaps, "Yellow" (front)
Sankofa OS Pocket, double-row-hip-snaps, "Yellow" (inside): Micro-fleece lining with two bamboo inserts!
Check it out HERE.

KaWaii OS Pocket, aplix (velcro), "Lime" (front)
KaWaii OS Pocket, aplix (velcro), "Lime" (inside): Fleece lining (might be micro-fleece, but it's thinner so I'm not sure) with two three-layer microfiber inserts

KaWaii OS Pocket, double-row-hip-snaps, "Flower'spring" (front)
I had to get at least one girly diaper! (I'm trying to go with more neutral colors so these work with future children of any gender).
KaWaii OS Pocket, double-row-hip-snaps, "Flower'spring" (inside): Micro-fleece lining with two three-layer microfiber inserts
KaWaii OS Pocket Overnight, double-row-hip-snaps, "Cow" (front)
KaWaii OS Pocket Overnight, double-row-hip-snaps, "Cow" (inside): Micro-fleece lining with two three-layer microfiber inserts

KaWaii OS Pocket Overnight, double-row-hip-snaps, "Pigs" (front)
KaWaii OS Pocket Overnight, double-row-hip-snaps, "Pigs" (inside): Micro-fleece lining with two larger three-layer microfiber inserts
My fun/bright Alva Wet/Dry bag!

My new Pail Liners!
Made of PUL (like the outside of all the diapers) so that all the yuckies stay in the bag and can be washed away instead of my pail getting all germ infested (I had worries about germs and mildew on the pail, now that's avoided!)

A Diaper Sprayer!
This connects to your toilet so you can spray off any solids (because you definitely don't want those in your washer! Yuck!)
I won't be using this for a while though...this is because exclusively BF (breast fed) NBs poop is water soluble and dissolves in the washer so you don't have to worry about spraying it off (unless you want to...which I might, lol).

Freebies!
Flannel cloth wipes and a Snappi!
I might as well wash cloth wipes if I'm washing diapers anyway, right? (boy print, but who cares...they're for wiping bums, lol).

I won't need a Snappi - diaper fastener - until I try out Fitteds or Prefolds, but I'm excited to have it in case I ever do need it!

Freebie samples!
Biodegradable laundry detergent, "stink out" (to remove oder from problem laundry), and some fruit and veggie washes; "Rockin Green" laundry detergent; "Baby bits" wipe solution; and a nursing mom's best friend - lanolin

Baby bits wipe solution: you dissolve one bit in a cup of water in a spray bottle to wet wipes or in a wipe warmer if you pre-wet your wipe...I'm going to try the latter

Baby leggings! Who needs pants anyway? ;)

Reusable Puree/Baby Food Baggies
Instead of buying those applesauce and other fruit snack bags and baby food at the store, you can make your own puree! My 3 year old is excited for these too, lol! Great for all ages ;)

Cloth Nursing Pads - cotton and PUL
If I'm washing diapers I might as well wash these, right!?
Cloth Nursing Pads - bamboo and PUL

A pen!
This cool pen is also a stylus and flashlight!

There you have it! Now to collect more diapers in other brands! (I especially need to get some more NB size asap! ...3 weeks until I'm due!) I'm planning on ordering 12-14 OS from both Alvababy.com and Sunbabydiapers.com with blended bamboo inserts (I'll have to explain why in another post). I think I'll try some charcoal blended bamboo inserts also.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment below with any thoughts or questions :)

Here we go!

With baby #2 due in a few weeks there's lots of preparing and decision making happening here in the Walker home!

Since we won't be able to afford for me to work part-time with two little ones (not worth the daycare costs...plus I'd rather stay home anyway) I've been trying to come up with ways I can help us financially...since we can't afford for me not to work either.

I've come up with a few ways that I think will do the trick:

  • Work from home (check out my $5 jewelry business BLOG and FACEBOOK)
  • Clip coupons
  • Babysit
  • Cloth Diaper (a LOT cheaper in the long run and so many cute options!)
So here is a blog to capture my adventures as a wife, mom, and money saver/maker ;)
